CREEPING FOG
BY ANDREW KUKULSKI
The incredibly immersive text-based Lifeline game series launched its first game onto iOS and Android devices back in 2015. Written by Dave Justus and built by the skilled team at 3 Minute Games, the game asked a simple question. What if someone who was stranded in space was randomly only able to communicate with you to try to help them? The game was well-made, used real-world timing for in-game progression to create tension and realism, and had a variety of dire consequences if the player poorly instructed the game's protagonist, Taylor.
The game was well-received and spawned multiple high-quality sequels and spinoffs. One spin-off project, in cooperation with Big Fish Games, was something that would become known as Lifeline Universe. A platform app for a variety of different Lifeline-style stories. In 2017, I joined their Author Program and spent more than a year prepping and writing my story for the platform, Creeping Fog. Lifeline Universe launched in Beta on Android only and chapters of the stories available from a variety of writers began to be posted to the app.
While there were fans of the new app and the stories it was telling, the whole project was ultimately scrapped by Big Fish Games in November of 2018. These gameplay videos of the four chapters of my story that were released in beta were recorded and kindly provided to me by a fan of the Lifeline series and my story. Here they can provide you with a sample of my narrative work on the project.
